If the fuse has failed, your microwave will no longer be able to operate at all. The display will no longer come on.

The diode enables the microwave to function and operate. It connects to the capacitor. If the diode or capacitor is faulty, this will probably cause the fuse to trip.

Microwaves can also sometimes lose the ability to heat food or start producing unusual noises. Where this is the case, the diode will almost certainly be the cause.
