The vacuum cleaner loses power during vacuuming, what to do ?
When you hoover, do you feel that the machine loses suction power? Here we explain the possible causes of this malfunction. Restore your device to its full capabilities with our how-to-guide !
THE CAUSES FOR THIS ISSUE:
-
Too much dust in the tank
-
Clogged filters
-
Excess dust in the brush
-
Engine saturation
-
Electrical engine malfunction
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
The bag is full
The first cause of your vacuum cleaner’s loss of power can be related to a full or almost full bag compartment. It is important to remember to change your vacuum cleaner bag, or to empty the storage compartment, regularly. We recommend that you do not wait until the last moment to replace or clean it to avoid overheating or the spread of bad odours. For models with a bag compartment, check the condition of the seals, if they show signs of wear, they will need to be replaced.

Filters are clogged
Filters play a valuable role in the operation of your device. They are used to block particles so that they do not clog the engine or be expelled out of the device into your home. There are often two filters: a first one, located before the engine, often composed of foam, and a second one after the engine. If you let dust accumulate on these filters, they may become congested. As a result, the air drawn in by the device will be reduced. If you notice that your filters are dirty, clean them with warm water if they are washable (for HEPA filters) or change them.

The brush is dirty
The brush, or brush roll, is the part of your device that comes into contact with dirt the most. It can be responsible for the loss of suction from your device. It is responsible for picking up everything on the ground: flecks of skin, fibres, hair, crumbs, small objects, food residue ... Detach it from the hoover, remove excess dust and check that no objects are lodged inside. Make sure the brush fits snuggly to the rest of the hoover, if not, put it back on more securely. If the brush is broken, it will need to be replaced.

The engine is saturated
The main function of your vacuum cleaner’s motor is to generate airflow through the hoses of the machine. If it fails, the engine turbine will not send enough air and you will notice a lack of suction. Remove the cover of your device to check that the motor is not saturated with dust or that it does not show signs of wear. If so, you can clean it gently. However, if the problem persists, you will need to replace it.
Purchase a motor for your vacuum cleaner
The engine lacks power
An unpowered motor may be the cause of your device’s loss of power. Make sure the voltage arrives to the motor by using a multimeter in the alternating current voltmeter position. Place the tips of your multimeter on the motor terminals. There should be a value of at least 210 volts. If you can’t find any value whatsoever, check the wires and the electronic board. If, despite all these checks, your engine is no longer being powered, it will have to be replaced.
