The display screen of the fridge freezer no longer lights up
Is the display screen of your refrigerator or freezer staying hopelessly black? Despite pressing the touchscreen, it won’t turn on? Follow these checks to identify the cause of the malfunction and repair this crucial part of your appliance
THE POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR THIS FAULT:
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
First, check whether your refrigerator’s display has an energy-saving mode. In this case, it is normal for it to turn off after a set time. To turn it back on, all you have to do is press the touchscreen.
Child lock is enabled
Some fridge or freezer models are equipped with a child lock function. This mode allows you to block the controls on the display panel so your kids don’t play with changing the temperature, or with the ice dispenser. Sometimes it is inadvertently activated. We recommend that you press the child lock control for at least 3 seconds to deactivate it. If this doesn’t change the black screen issue, move on to the next item in this guide.
The refrigerator is not powered
Now, check the electrical outlet to which your refrigeration appliance is plugged in. Is the power cord or plug inserted incorrectly? Or, perhaps the problem comes from the wall socket that no longer works properly? To check this, plug another device into this outlet. Take the opportunity to check the fridge’s power cable, which should not show signs of damage. Depending on what you find, repairing the plug or replacing the damaged cord should resolve this display panel issue.
Some refrigerator models have Sabbath mode. This mode allows the appliances to be used in accordance with Jewish laws during the Sabbath and Jewish holidays. Specifically, this feature allows you to turn off all the light or sound devices on your device. You may have activated this feature by mistake. Before any more in-depth checks, refer to the user manual to validate if this option is present and how to turn it off.
An electronic bug
Sometimes, a simple electronic bug can disrupt the operation of a fridge screen display. Before disassembling, try to reset your device by unplugging it for a few minutes. Did this solve the issue?
The display screen is defective
After performing these basic checks, look at the screen itself. To do this, consult the instructions for your household appliance. Once you have access to the internal part of the screen, see if one of the connectors is simply unplugged. Plug it back in if necessary or repair it if damaged. Next, inspect the display screen for any melted or damaged components. If everything is normal, you’ll need to test your device’s display card using a multimeter. This part may need to be replaced.
