My dryer is leaking, what should I check to repair it?
What a nasty surprise! You discover a puddle at the foot of your dryer! How could this have happened? Your appliance’s mission is to dry, not to create puddles! Here, you will find a rational explanation that will help you repair your dryer!
THE POTENTIAL CAUSES OF THIS PROBLEM:
-
Incorrect level adjustment
-
Cracked base
-
Poor filter maintenance
-
Damage to seals
-
Damaged pipe hose
-
Cracked drip tray
WARNING
Before you do anything to your appliance, make sure you disconnect it from the power supply.
There is a risk of electric shock.
Wear suitable protective gloves if you need to dismantle anything.
There is a risk of getting cut or injured.
The device is not level
If your dryer is tilted too much, water can stagnate at the front and cause a leak. To avoid this, it will have to be adjusted with a spirit level by playing with the legs or with wooden wedges if the inclination of the dryer is too great.
The dryer base is cracked
The base may crack if it has been accidentally hit by something whilst being moved. In this case, the water will pass through and you will find a puddle underneath. If the crack is small, you can try to repair it with a soldering iron. On the other hand, if the opening is too large, you will unfortunately have to replace the base.
Lack of filter maintenance
Improper maintenance of your dryer can end up causing a leak. To avoid this, make it a habit to clean your filters after each drying cycle. Otherwise, your household appliance may be invaded by lint, which will promote leaks via blocked ventilation, overheating and drainage issues.
The seals are worn
It is also important to check the seals/gaskets on your drum and clean them of any lint buildup. Also examine the felt seal on your drying machine. To access it, you need to unmount the top panel. If it is worn out, it will need to be replaced.

The pipe hose is damaged
On condensing dryers or dryers equipped with a heat pump, a pipe hose collects the water and sends it back either to a collection tank or to another outlet. Sometimes the pipe carrying the water is clogged, bent or punctured. Perform a visual check and replace the pipe hose if it is damaged. Take this opportunity to also clean the collection tank. If this is located at the bottom of the unit, check that the flapper on the tank is still in place and is undamaged. Otherwise, water could escape and cause a leak.

To check if the hose is clogged, simply blow into it.
The condensate tray is cracked
The water collection tray or also called the condensate tray allows you to recover the moisture extracted from the laundry. However, it can happen that over time, with the weight of the water, it can crack and cause a leak.
To find out if the condensate tray is responsible for all your hassle, take it out and fill it with tap water. This way, you can easily spot any leaking water from the sides or underneath and replace the part if necessary.
