Hot water tank: the water temperature is too high

Hot water for your shower, very good ... but not burning hot! For the past few days, have you noticed that the temperature of the water delivered by your hot water tank is too high? In this article, we go over the possible causes for this issue.
POTENTIAL SOLUTIONS FOR THIS PROBLEM:
WARNING
Before carrying out any work on your appliance, make sure you properly disconnect it from the mains electricity supply.
There is a risk of an electric shock.
The thermostat is incorrectly adjusted
First, check the set temperature of your water heater. It should be around 60 °C. We recommend setting your thermostat to 55 °C. This temperature is sufficient to preserve the sanitary quality of the hot water distributed, and, in addition, it reduces your electricity consumption from 3% to 5% annually compared to 60 °C.
Never set the temperature of a hot water tank below 50 °C. This promotes the development of legionella, bacteria that are harmful to health!
The coil is covered with scale
Limescale is the No. 1 enemy of hot water tanks. Depending on the hardness of the water in your area, heated water promotes limescale deposits inside the tank and especially on the heating coils. If it is not descaled regularly, the coils will no longer work properly and the water stored in the tank will either not be heated enough or overly heated. This is why it is recommended to empty the tank annually to remove sediment and descale if necessary. On the other hand, if the heating coils are damaged by limescale, you will have no choice but to replace the part to save your water heater.
Some models of hot water tanks have inbuilt soapstone or shielded coils. This protects the heater from limescale. However, regular emptying allows any limestone residues accumulated at the bottom of the tank to be evacuated.

The thermostat is broken
Once these initial checks have been made, go to the thermostat. One sign that it is defective is that the water heater will no longer be able to meet your desired temperature, or it may heat the water excessively. In this case, you must intervene quickly because it can cause irreparable damage to your heating system. To replace this part, call a professional or try to replace it yourself, but only if it is an electric water heater!
