Electric lawn mower

What signs of a fault are you noticing with your electric lawnmower?

Repairing an electric lawnmower or a robotic lawnmower: identifying the cause of the fault

Is your electric lawnmower or robotic lawnmower failing to start, stopping whilst in use, cutting the grass poorly, or displaying an error message? Before replacing your machine, take the time to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem. In many cases, a simple maintenance check or the replacement of a faulty part is all it takes to get your equipment up and running again.

To make a proper diagnosis, observe the symptoms carefully: failure to start, reduced battery life, unusual noise, excessive vibration, a blade that no longer rotates, difficulty returning to the charging station, or an error displayed on the robot’s screen. These clues will help you pinpoint the checks to carry out. A multimeter may then prove useful for carrying out certain electrical checks.

In many cases, no spare parts are required: a thorough clean, a reset of the connections, or regular maintenance often restores normal operation. When a component is genuinely faulty, an accurate diagnosis prevents unnecessary replacements and facilitates the repair.

Note: This section applies only to corded electric mowers, battery-powered mowers and robotic mowers. Petrol mowers have specific mechanical systems and engines that require different diagnostic procedures.
